Tasks
POSITION PURPOSE
The Junior Equity Trader will assist with the execution of equity trades generated by Portfolio Managers in European markets. The role will involve developing best execution practices through both High Touch and Electronic trading, in a client first approach. By working alongside colleagues on the desk and sell side brokers, they will look to build a strong understanding daily of what is driving equity markets from both a micro and macro perspective. They will then be expected to regularly use this knowledge to communicate market context to traders, analysts, and portfolio managers globally. They will also learn about how Market Structure affects the mechanics of Equity markets and how this aligns with our strategic goals. In addition, they will learn the life cycle of a trade and will assist the trading desk in resolving trading issues and evolving best execution practices. The role involves building strong relationships both internally with the investment team and externally with the broker community.
Principal Responsibilities
- Execute buy and sell transactions on assigned securities in European Markets.
- Maximise best execution practices in both high and low touch trading across multiple trading platforms / venues.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of market structure and regulatory issues
- Develop, maintain, and manage relationships with a broad set of broker/dealers.
- Gather and analyze market information, inclusive of other asset classes, and communicate relevant information to traders, analysts, and eventually portfolio managers.
- Continually work to understand and analyze TCA/fill data to enhance best execution capabilities.
- Identify risks and follow appropriate processes and controls thereby reducing significant risk to the firm including material financial loss, as well as reputational damage to the firm.
Profile / Your qualification / Your personality
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES / SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum requirement of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years’ work experience within the financial industry.
- 2 years of relevant institutional trading experience preferable
- A strong interest in equity markets, economics and current affairs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team comprised of portfolio managers, analysts, and traders.
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task with precision
- Attention to detail, accurate and sound judgment
- Strong quantitative, analytical and organizational skills
- Intellectual curiosity and strong problem-solving skills.
- Coding interest and skillset in Pyhon and R preferred.
- High level of personal accountability and Self-motivated
