About your team :

Luxembourg acts as the headquarters of Fidelity International’s Continental European business and is where the Group’s major cross border product range is domiciled. The Luxembourg Financial Control team, together with a team in Germany, are responsible for the statutory reporting, regulatory reporting and financial control for all Fidelity’s activities in Continental Europe and for FIL Limited Group’s Latin American, and Middle Eastern entities.  These entities are very significant companies within the Fidelity International organisation and are highly visible to senior management and to regulators. 

 The Continental Europe Finance team consists of the Director, Continental Europe Financial Control based in Luxembourg and staff based in Luxembourg and Germany supported by teams in India and China. 

 

About your role :
You will be responsible for supporting FIL’s Continental Europe financial services companies and associated branch and representative offices, managing the provision of accounting, controlling and other reporting support as required.

The role may also involve managing outsourced accounting activities provided by local third party accounting firms as well as managing support from the India teams.  

Tasks

  • Providing legal entity control and reporting support to Fidelity’s legal entities (companies, branches and representative offices) in Continental Europe as required. 
  • Ensuring a robust control framework exists to provide efficient and accurate statutory and regulatory reporting, including the management of and the provision of accounting data to outsourced providers of accounting services. 
  • Taking lead on the change initiative (either global or local) and assessing its impact of the CE Financial Control processes or operations. 
  • Taking responsibility for monthly reporting of the relevant legal entities under US GAAP and local GAAP to include: 
  • Supervising and controlling accounting for income and expenditure; 
  • Control of inter-company transactions including cost recovery and fee arrangements, understanding the rationale and basis for transfer pricing transactions; 
  • Regular review of balance sheet items. 
  • handling of corporate tax and VAT matters in consultation with the internal tax / VAT department 
  • Manage the preparation of local regulatory reporting as necessary. 
  • Manage the preparation of local GAAP financial reporting as necessary. 
  • Manage the regulatory and other capital and liquidity held by the entities overseen from Luxembourg to ensure adequate capitalisation and liquidity of all companies while maximising repatriation of surplus funds to the centre. This will involve ongoing capital monitoring and capital / liquidity planning as well as collaborating with other finance team members responsible for local regulatory reporting and, where appropriate, 
  • Working effectively with external and internal auditors with respect to US GAAP reporting to FIL Group Finance and local GAAP statutory accounts. 
  • Liaising with other FIL Finance teams based in Luxembourg, Germany, India and the UK for co-ordinating activities within the group. 

Profile / Your qualification / Your personality

  • A qualified accountant or equivalent degree with relevant post-qualification experience. 
  • Fluent spoken and written English and French; other European languages would be beneficial. 
  • Good knowledge of accounting rules and principles and the ability to apply this to understanding the requirements of varied jurisdictions. 
  • Dedicated to accuracy, quality and attention to detail. 
  • A previous role in a financial services or Luxembourg Man Co finance function would be beneficial. 
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP 
  • Passion for continuous improvement – not afraid to challenge the status quo
