  • Work with business units and colleagues in Strategic Investments to identify key themes and focus areas for investment that will help underpin Barclays’ strategic objectives
  • Analysis of the market in which the proposed target company operates
  • Work to define the rationale for the investment, including alternative targets, and how this will further aid Barclays objectives
  • Selection and use of appropriate valuation methodologies for the proposed investment (e.g. DCF, multiples, etc)
  • Agree appropriate valuation inputs (revenue, margins, etc) to develop bear, base and bull case models
  • Valuation sensitivity analysis, identifying the drivers of risk/return in the investment
  • Coordinate with Finance to ensure standard valuation inputs/approaches are applied across investments (e.g. agreement on methodology, exit multiples, accounting adjustments, etc)
  • Negotiate headline terms with company management, existing shareholders and other investors in the round
  • Commercial analysis of deal documentation to ensure the docs accurately reflect the underlying economics (as modelled)
  • Act as the Shareholder representative for a portfolio of deals, building a relationship with the senior management team at each portfolio company
  • Determine appropriate course of action for Barclays in response to corporate / shareholder events at existing investments
  • Participate in relevant working groups and boards for existing investments (including recapitalisations, restructurings etc)
  • Work with business units to understand direction of travel of partnerships and ensure they understand performance of the company and potential future required decisions such as additional equity funding / exits

Tasks

  • Identification and screening of principal equity investment and divestment opportunities that align with the bank's overall business objectives, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and due diligence of various investment and divestment opportunities in principal equity investments, to select appropriate transactions for the portfolio, including follow-ons.
  • Execution of transactions and portfolio management of the bank's principal equity investment portfolio, ensuring that it meets the bank's strategic investment objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Analysis of the performance and periodic valuation updates of the principal equity investment portfolio, evaluating its performance against risk indicators and investment strategic objectives, and preparation of regular performance reports for relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Implementation and maintenance of effective risk management processes to identify, measure, monitor, and control risks arising from transacting in principal equity investments.

  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
