Berenberg is one of the world’s oldest financial institutions having been established in Hamburg in 1590. To this day, Berenberg remains a privately-owned partnership with a presence which spans continental Europe, the UK and the US.

Berenberg’s wealth and asset management division has assets under management of £28bn (as at 31 March 2024) Berenberg’s core investment capabilities lie in actively managed equities (regional and global) and multi asset solutions. 

Over the last 5 years in particular Berenberg has set strong foundations for future growth in the UK market. This has involved developing innovative new solutions for UK institutional investors such as DC pension schemes and insurers. The company is now looking for an exceptional candidate to lead the UK team and the UK business through its next stage of growth.

Aufgaben

Berenberg’s products target a range of clients institutional and wholesale channels. There is now a need to build out the institutional sales efforts under new leadership.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior UK institutional sales professional with a proven track record of developing and executing a sales strategy to join Berenberg to focus on profitable new business generation from UK institutional pension funds, private and public-sector pension schemes, insurance, charities and other institutional investors. This individual will also have responsibility for overseeing the development of Berenberg’s sales efforts in the UK wholesale market which is currently covered by a third party distributer. 

Ideally the individual should have strong relationships with the UK corporate pension schemes and familiarity with the insurance sector. The successful candidate will need a strong network of relationships, a keen grasp of investment and the ability to operate at the most senior levels within the UK pension and investment industry.  

This role will also cover Global and local UK consultant relations to the individual should also be able to demonstrate a good understanding of and experience of having successful developed relationship with investment consultants. 

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities 

  • Continue to establish a presence for Berenberg in the UK to enable the organisation to drive sales through key distribution channels. 
  • Develop and implement a cohesive business development sales strategy with clearly identified and prioritised targets across institutional investors in the UK. 
  • Establish and develop relationships with key prospects across the UK, demonstrating a clear understanding of the clients’ investment criteria enabling Berenberg to be considered as a strategic partner.
  • Project manage all aspects of the sales process for any given opportunities (including responsibility for final sign-off of RFPs, setting agendas with the prospects and presentation materials). 
  • Take lead responsibility for relationships with investment consultants 
  • Manage the UK asset management team
  • Provide prospect and market feedback back into the business, enabling this intelligence to be used to generate relevant product capabilities. 
  • Monitor and track competitor activity, sales productivity and pricing. 
  • Work effectively with the marketing and external public relations team, to represent Berenberg in external forums, publications and electronic media in a manner that positively enhances the organisation’s brand image. 
  • Contribute to the product development across the different investment functions.

Profil / Ihre Qualifikation / Ihre Persönlichkeit:

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFA) 
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Able to demonstrate a strong and successful direct business development track record in an Institutional sales environment 
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of consultative selling skills 
  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK Investment Industry and Investment management techniques 
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 
  • Strong technical product and investment skills, enabling effective dialogue with consultants, analysts and clients
