Barclays is seeking a highly motivated and integrity-driven Credit Risk Officer to join our Private Bank team in Geneva. This role will focus on sanctioning credit cases for our Swiss legal entity, working closely with credit structuring, credit operations and the private bankers to ensure the highest standards of credit risk management are maintained. The successful candidate will play a key role in reviewing and sanctioning credit cases, with a strong focus on portfolio financing and mortgages for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients with properties across Switzerland, the UK, Monaco and France.
The position offers exposure to high-value transactions and will require sound judgment, strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to challenge and push back where appropriate. The role will also involve the preparation of monthly Credit Risk Committee packs, management information (MI) reporting and ensuring timely monitoring of client credit positions in line with Barclays Group policies and Swiss regulatory requirements.
As part of a collaborative and dynamic team, the Credit Risk Officer will act as a key partner in supporting the business in achieving their objectives, providing expert input into structuring transactions while safeguarding the credit risk appetite of the portfolio. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, analytical strength and leadership qualities, with the opportunity to influence decision-making and contribute to the growth and success of the Swiss PB platform.
This role is based in Geneva.

Purpose of the role
To safeguard the financial health of the bank by identifying, analysing, and mitigating potential credit risks associated with lending activities.
Aufgaben
- Strong experience in credit risk sanctioning, ideally within private banking or related environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in structuring and approving high-value and complex credit transactions.
- Excellent understanding of mortgage lending, portfolio financing, collateral requirements and regulatory standards.
- Proven ability to monitor and manage credit positions effectively, ensuring compliance with limits and policies.
- Strong financial and credit risk analysis skills, with a solid grasp of investment products, derivatives, Lombard and mortgage lending.
- High level of integrity, with the confidence to challenge and push back when appropriate.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across front office, credit operations and senior management.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and manage heavy workloads under pressure.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Prior experience in credit risk within a private banking environment.
- Strong familiarity with the Swiss and UK property and credit markets.
- International exposure across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proficiency in English as well as French.
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Avaloq.

- Analysis of financial data, including income, assets, liabilities, credit history, and economic trends, to determine the risk of default.
- Monitoring of existing loan portfolios to identify potential credit deterioration or early warning signs of default.
- Recommendation of loan approvals, rejections, or adjustments based on risk evaluation and bank lending policies.
- Development and implementation of credit risk mitigation strategies, including collateral management, loan restructuring, and workout plans.
- To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
